Donald was not exactly the sports type. While he loved a good 305 Fitness class, he always preferred scrolling on TikTok, watching The Housewives, or drinking a glass of Pinot Grigio in a bar with friends (or at home solo while watching Housewives). But when he got bored of the same circle of NYC gays he kept hanging out with, he impulsively joined a gay dodgeball league for “fun and community." Aka a reason to hit the bars on a Monday night.

The first practice was a mess. Donald was terrified of balls being thrown in each and every direction (not in the fun way), and not to mention the list of rules that apparently come with a sport! But there was one thing he was able to get right: notice the cute boy from across the court.

Peter. Tall, with brown hair, and an effortless coolness about him. He was the guy everyone looked at when he made an incredible catch or dodged a ball like a pro. Donald felt a little out of place, but at the after-play, while talking over double vodka sodas, he and Peter hit it off. They hopped on the subway, both headed back to Brooklyn, exchanged numbers, and so it began. When teams were announced, they surprisingly found out that they would be on the same team! It's giving rom com meet cute.

The next few weeks were a blur of missed throws, sweaty clothes, and a growing sense of camaraderie among the team. And in the middle of all that chaos, Donald found himself more and more drawn to Peter. His easy laugh, his finesse on and off the court, and the way he cheered Donald on when he somehow managed to catch a ball. And Peter found himself more and more drawn to Donald. His loud laugh, the way he was the life of the party, and because Donald decided that they were a pair and Peter didn't have much of a choice.

By the end of the season, they were close friends and soon the team was celebrating more than just wins. They were celebrating Donald and Peter's first official date, their first kiss, and then, a few years later, their engagement.

And now, standing before a small gathering of friends, family, enemies, and a few dodgeball team members, Donald & Peter will tie the knot <3
